DEN Concourse Restroom Remodel

The restrooms at Denver International Airport were original to the building, with only minor cosmetic upgrades since 1995. While fixtures and water heaters were occasionally replaced, the overall restroom layouts had remained unchanged. This project aimed to modernize plumbing systems in all 57 public restrooms in concourses A, B, and C (excluding the concourse expansion restrooms), while meeting the latest City and County of Denver building codes. Engineering services included replacing and relocating all plumbing fixtures, replacing domestic and waste piping, and installing new water heaters, with a focus on reliability, maintainability, and system longevity.

Domestic and waste pipe sizing was determined based on fixture counts for each restroom. Existing conditions were drafted in Revit and verified on site. New piping layouts, fixtures, and water heaters were also drafted in Revit to integrate seamlessly with existing plumbing infrastructure.

The client received a fully coordinated plumbing design that supported the architectural updates and addressed efficiency and reliability goals. Several client-driven scope changes and additions were incorporated throughout the design process, ensuring that all desired updates were achieved. One of the project’s greatest challenges was verifying the existing conditions of a building of this size. Through close collaboration with DEN facilities staff and extensive on-site verification, we identified problematic areas and determined the most effective solutions.
